What does the name “TheOverflow” mean?
As the unnamed company was growing, it was co-founders Stephen Relph and Chris Shaban desire to find a name that Christians would understand, and the world would want to understand. While trying to find a name, we were at a complete loss. Well, one weekend Christian artist Aaron Gillespie was staying at Chris’ house, he suggested that “whatever you do, put ‘the’ in the name”. After an unsuccessful brainstorming session at a restaurant, Chris shared Aaron’s feedback with Stephen. We decided to pray and seek God’s help right then and there to find the name. Within minutes, we said, “what about TheOverflow?”. Convinced the URL would no longer be available (note: the URL you want is pretty much never available), we checked anyway, and it was available. We knew that “Overflow” is found in Psalm 23, but were woefully unaware of the full context. What blew us away was that in this Psalm David (…that shepherd boy who wielded that one stone!) is talking about how God will “…Prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.” We were frankly blown away. What an affirmation of the leading of the Holy Spirit! Within days, TheOverflow.com was purchased.
So… it’s our prayer and our belief, that God will use TheOverflow to help you go deeper in your faith, and impact the world for the glory of Jesus Christ. Remember, “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden” (Matthew 5:14). So… don’t hide your faith, OVERFLOW!!!
